Fun Walls
I've been watching my living room wall transform under the hand of my roommate, Clem, who is muralizing it with his rendition of the Hadron Collider. And this guy Josh across the hall who works for Dark Horse Comics is gonna add naked women and color to it. Nuts. And amazing. I will post the finished product soon.
So of course I've become obsessed with other wall art. I posted previously some awesome examples of patchworked wallpaper walls that look like quilts. I also just found the most amazing wallpaper ever. Check it out, it is animal silhouettes that have skeletons that appear in certain light or at a certain angle. Loving it, want it.

Another possibility... design your own!
My other idea for the wall by my desk is to completely cover the wall with fake flowers so the entire wall is like looking at the top of a dense bouquet. Then I searched for such things on the internets, and of course the best thing to come up was by Apartment Therapy:
I love that. Though for my wall it would be even wackier. I don't want to see any wall. But I think I would decorate with flowers around some super kooky wall art, like a velvet tapestry of a family of cats... or something. Also, back in a box in Wisconsin is my troll doll collection from childhood. I think they might have to be resurrected and planted into my wall garden... I'll get back to you on this I swear.

I think I should have just bought this instead of trying to knit my own...
I totally spent 45$ on the yarn, and then didn't have enough to make one of these and can't find that yarn again. I also don't quite know what I am supposed to fill it with... but this one from cb2.com is about 90$ and is big and firm and has great reviews. sigh... i give in, i buy you now.

500$ Etsy painting
I liked this for some reason, and then my friend Elizabeth pointed out that it's a penis. How the heck did I miss that??? It looks like it's outlining the science of cum trajectory.

Something new to start collecting...
These may have been featured on Regretsy, but they are awesome. I want all of them.

Ebay score: macrame hanging chair
Let's hope it's cotton so I can dye it red or something. It's cool white too though.
I can't get a better picture from ebay of it, oops. That chair is now my alternative to the real lust item, the macrame chair from Anthropologie:

Ah ha ha ha
I'm still just bumming around the Apartment Therapy blog and saw this. Yes, sitting on Colbert's face may freak some people out. But the idea is good, take a basic Ikea couch and paint it up! Anyone know what sort of paint one could use that wouldn't feel absolutely revolting to sit on and wouldn't like, wear off on my white jumpsuit?

Creating the perfect crash pad
I saw this luggage that transforms into a couch, and would love to incorporate it into my ideal Brooklyn crash pad loft. Organizing a space that needs to accommodate lots of people in a single apartment would be a fun challenge. I'd like to get a raw space, and build small sleep capsule style lofted bedrooms into it. Like, six or seven private sleep spaces. Which is better than the normal crash pad where you share a room and therefore may or may not have any privacy. And I'd like lots of metal lockers for secured items and to organize bathroom items. And for the living room... this couch:

Revamping the apartment
http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/la/interior-design/10-tips-for-redecorating-on-a-budget-135782
The above link is a handy article for tips on updating your space with limited funds.
I've just increased the square footage of my loft by adding a balcony that extends out from the two lofted bedrooms and functions as work and play space for two of my roommates who both paint and draw. One of them is a dj so we can have a sweet dj booth stationed up there as well :)
Since the best part of our apartment is the large, open living space, our concern was that the addition would close off the space too much. But luckily it doesn't really do that:
I think the reason why it's ok is because we aren't walling off the balcony. We do need some kind of barrier though, not too tall. I'm considering some 42" tall home depot fencing... white picket fence?
Also, there's the decision of whether to leave the beams exposed or not. I'm gonna paint them all white and see how that feels. The roommates want sound responsive colored lights built between the beams, covered with frosted plexi or something. You know, for parties and such. I have no clue yet how feasible that is...

The next step is adding a fourth bedroom on the lower level. Since I am a flight attendant and not home much, I need to keep rent down and only need a minimal space that fits little more than a bed, crash pad style. The space to the left is where the room will be, and won't extend as far as the addition, so there will be room for a couple of those hanging hammock chairs perhaps? Also, there will probably only be a wall added on the right hand side, leaving the front open in order to let light and air in, and also to make the space more convertible. I will probably hang some funky curtains on the front end. The two rooms upstairs are also modeled this way. Since there is only one wall with windows, air flow is limited because there isn't a cross breeze. There is only one heater for the whole apartment, by the window, and in the summer only one wall to place an air conditioner. Behind the two upstairs bedrooms is another room, which suffers in the heat and cold by being a closed off cave of a room. More privacy though.
Apartment Therapy is my fave NYC design blog
Inspiring stuff. They also regularly list their top craigslist finds, which is super cool.

I want to replicate this wallpaper idea below in my apartment, though I may do it by creating fabric panels and hanging them since i rent my pad and would want to be able to take the walls with me if I move.

Made by Lisa Whatmough, too bad her shop is all the way in London. And I can't afford such things... This is why I should learn how to upholster things...
